About the Artist
|
As a horticulturist, Susan Mintun finds studying the science of plants a continual adventure. Each process understood, structure examined, and environmental interaction revealed inspires a desire to know more. As an artist she revels in recording what can be observed, and strives to elicit from the viewer a deeper sense of awe and curiosity about the natural world.
Susan works in watercolor and graphite on paper and vellum. Her approach is detailed and precise, with the goal of capturing the intricacies of each subject and creating a lasting record of the beauty and substance of Kingdom Plantae. She holds degrees in fine art, horticulture, and plant science, and is a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, and the Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators. “Plants are entirely fascinating, from their collective role in earth’s ecosystems to the most minuscule seed, to the complexities of the chemistry inside a single cell. In the face of increasing habitat loss and global climate change it is incumbent on us all to learn, educate and protect every part of the natural world in any way we can.” |
